Ramsey Crime Scene # 48*
We venture into John Ramsey's Study on the Top-Floor
Today, in The History of JonBenét, we delve deeper into the abyss of the attic and take a look into John Ramsey’s personal study. The little alcove sat opposite of the master bedroom, which can be seen in,
John’s man cave sat just above JonBenet’s room and is where he conducted most of his business away from the office. We don’t actually have crime scene photo #48. However, we know from the description of it, picked up in dialogue from the 1998 interviews, that photo #48, was a shot taken of John Ramsey’s personal study/den. Although, likely not the same exact vantage, I was able to track down a still shot from the crime scene video, which likely represents it:
From Patsy Ramsey’s 1998 interview with authorities we learn:
TRIP DeMUTH: Do you know what this is? It’s hard to see, in the back lower corner? Does that look like his bathrobe?
PATSY RAMSEY: I don’t know. Looks like a sweater or something.
TRIP DeMUTH: Would it be unusual for John to put his bathrobe down on the floor in that area?
PATSY RAMSEY: Yeah. Because he usually hangs it up in his bathroom. Unless, you know, he was starting to put it on when I screamed for him and he dropped it or something.
John’s dark blue bathrobe that Patsy is referring to, is pictured here on the floor:
The unusual thing about Mr. Ramsey’s study, is there seems to be a few random items strewn about on his solid wood L-shaped desk that should be just be that- random and irrelevant things. But, this is the Ramsey case. If you dig deeper and look a little closer, these arbitrary items, left out and in the open, appear to be not-so-random after all. Was evidence staged inside the study to possibly point the police down the wrong investigative path? In a future post, I will break down what was discovered in the study and show how this little side-space in the attic became a room-full of important evidence.
For now, let’s get back to the robe seen in the crime scene video. Patsy’s last comment on it from her 1998 interview (see above) is quite interesting to say the least. What do you notice about the blue robe lying on the floor in the study?
The robe was collected by the police via a search warrant and just a few weeks after the murder, the Colorado Bureau of Investigations conducted serological laboratory tests on it. The robe is listed as exhibit #66 in the lab report seen below:
Two weeks later the results came back for the robe and other items. Seminal fluid was indicated on the robe and trace evidence was collected from it as well.
The indication of seminal fluid on the bathrobe is most likely innocent and irrelevant to this crime. However, dark blue fuzz-ball fibers were found on JonBenet’s shirt, underwear, and skin, which still to this date- have not been identified or matched to anyone or anything.
Early on, there were some investigators who believed the dark colored fibers found on JonBenet, may have been from John’s bathrobe that was found on the floor.

Maybe John WAS involved! I’d never considered that before but the robe fibers in her pubic area and the fact that the robe had seminal fluid on it- who would use THAT to wipe her down??
